Welcome back friends!
I can't believe how fast this summer has passed by. This was one of the most gorgeous sessions I shot this summer and I wanted to share it with you guys. I actually shot a grad session for Linda in the spring so it was such a pleasure to be able to work with her again for a different session type. I love love love when previous clients return to get their photos done with me. It always feels like a little fire kindling in my heart to be able to memorialize another moment in time for them.
We shot this session at Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve over in Plano, TX. Believe it or not, this is one of my favorite places to shoot a session because of a few reasons! The accessibility to a public bathroom and the convenient parking are two of them, but the biggest one of all is the versatility of the location! Accessibility is so important to me as a photographer so I like being able to convey to potential clients the convenience of a location as well as how easy it is to navigate. I don't like assuming my clients are willing to go on a whole twenty minute walk into a nature park before we get to a big field to shoot in. I like that the small route I take when I'm here actually provides a wide amount of access to different spots! From a wooden fence, to small field areas, and a wide open lake, the options are endless.
We started the session a little into one of the longer trails where we came upon the little wooden boardwalk. The only downside of this session was the random summer storm we got before we even arrived. Normally when I'm shooting evening sessions here in the summer, I have to worry more about getting eaten alive by bugs than the light. This was not the case here as you can see, I did struggle a tad bit with the lighting. Thankfully, I brought my Godox V1C for some supplemental lighting and I think it worked out well. The small trail we walked on is actually a very short loop that takes you towards the big lake in the middle. It's heavily wooded and so green and lush in the summer but gets gorgeous brown tones during the fall too.
For the next portion of the session, we shot by the "rocks" by the lake. There was a bunch of people fishing and the water didn't look super still so I avoided using the water in the background. There was a patch of tall grass and flowers to the side near the lake and we also got to use that! There's a few spots near the parking area that are wider spaces with tall grass and more field-like but we wanted to work quickly since we were losing light. The weather was truly our enemy this day. I still think the photos with the flowers were gorgeous regardless.
The last portion of this session was shot by the wooden fence and the lake, which I felt was so stunning. There was so much more light in the wide open space even though you can kinda tell it was gloomy that day. Most of the fencing runs behind the building and this day they had an event so the little walkway you see behind it was actually blocked off. When it's not roped off it makes a good opportunity to play with having one person behind it and one person in front of it, there's just so much more dynamics to work with. There's a smaller portion of the fence that runs on the other side of the lake that had some wildflowers. I'd never seen them before until this day! I'll be back early spring to see when they start cropping up - this might be a great spot for some spring mini sessions. Overall, this is by far one of my favorite spots in this whole location solely because of the worn wooden fence. It adds such a nice touch to the session. Anyway, that concludes the whole couples session I shot here! I hope this provided some good insight and a good view of the space as well as look into what a full couples session can look like with me.
I hope to see some of your lovely faces this fall! I'll be offering half session and this is one of the locations! My half sessions are going at $300 plus tax, instead of it being a full session lasting an hour where you can do multiple outfits and locations, it will be a pre-selected location (like this) and only 30 minutes. These half sessions have been created for those of you looking to get your family photos, couples photos, holiday card photos, etc. I know it can be so incredibly exhausting to add a tedious task like planning a photoshoot for yourself and your family on top of your never-ending to-do lists. So I'm here to help! I wanted to take the guesswork out for some of you and provide you with a location that I know will be perfect, and a small amount of time that hopefully won't cut into too much of your days.
If you are seeking a half session this fall (September-November) here are the locations I'm offering:
I am also offering mini sessions this fall/winter - two of them will be for grads at UTA and UTD, and the last one will be my yearly Christmas Tree Farm mini sessions!
- University of Texas at Arlington Fall '25 Grad Mini Sessions
- University of Texas at Dallas Fall '25 Grad Mini Sessions
- Christmas Tree Farm Mini Session
I still might do a Christmas Studio mini session day, I'm just looking at my options for now but when I book that, you guys will know! If you're not following me on Instagram, you should! That's the first place you'll receive updates when I have them.
XO,
MATHILDA
